Book Review- Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy With God in the Busyness of Life

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I received this book for review.  I liked the idea that there were short story examples, and that there is a 12 week Bible Study to go along with the lessons.  What I didn’t expect was to hear the truth that this book speaks to nearly every woman.

We all do live in a busy, busy world, and society has decided that women can just “do it all”.  This concept is great, if you don’t want relationships.  But to have any kind of one-on-one, especially with God, we have to realize that “doing it all” is not what’s important.  In example after example this book uses real life scenarios compared to the examples from Mary in the bible to show us that all the “stuff” we are doing is not what we need to do.  There are examples of how to learn to say no, how to slow down, and what to do when you have those quiet moments that begin to appear in your life.

As a believer in keeping “busy” all the time, there were things in this book that hit me harder than I expected, and have really made me think about what I do, and how I handle situations.  The companion bible study proved to be a solid reinforcement for what Joanna Weaver directs the reader through in this much needed book.

Any woman could benefit from reading this book.  There are examples that can apply to all of our lives, and will surely improve our relationship with God and others.  This would be a great gift or to use as a ministry to busy women everywhere.
