DIY Dishwasher Tabs

Don’t you just hate having to buy household items that you end up just throwing away? Things like toilet paper, paper towels…and dishwasher tablets? Well, l’m about to let you in on a life changing, money saving secret- how to make your own dishwasher tablets!

There are some things that I just dread having to purchase at the store- laundry detergent, toilet paper, dishwasher soap, bathing soap……. so, I am always working on DIY ideas. But I have to admit, much of the time my creations don’t work exactly as I expected and hoped.  These little dishwasher tablets have proven to be an exception to that and actually work really well!

These are super easy to make, and my clean dishwasher is now even more spotless!  This small batch is a great size to try, and so economical.  The ingredients can be multiplied to make larger batches as you discover how well they work for you!

DIY Dishwasher Tablets from One Ash Farm Recipes

1 cup Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Kosher Salt (more or less, the purpose is to reduce water
spotting.  if your water is soft you can use less)
3 TBS. Lemon Juice
1 cup water
Mix all ingredients and pour a shallow amount into ice cube or other
small trays that will fit your dishwashers soap dispenser.
(I have some nifty, tiny plastic squares I got at the
dollar store that fit my dishwasher just right).
These don’t shrink as they dry, so whatever you pour is what the size will be.
Allow to dry for 24 hours, or until all liquid is absorbed.
Pop out of the mold and store in an airtight container.

What is the lemon juice for? Baking soda and washing soda are both alkaline, so the acid lemon juice would tend to counteract them. Have you tried the same other ingredients without the lemon juice?
