One of my favorite things to do while eating breakfast is to read recipe books. Yes, I actually “read” recipe books- there is so much more in there than just recipes! And that is definitely the case with Everyday Detox by Megan Gilmore.
At first glance this seemed like many other get-healthy books, but upon a closer look I found that Mrs. Gilmore has included an easy approach to not just detoxing, but to creating a healthy lifestyle. The first part of the book includes easy to read and understand information about why and how you can take your family into the world of healthy and natural eating through improving your gut health. Whether you are wanting weight loss, help with a gluten free program, or a way to eat homegrown and locally, this book will help you learn to properly combine starches, proteins and carbs. Without a huge list of “needs”, Everyday Detox includes a list of items you may need to stock a detox-friendly kitchen. The list not just tells the item but also includes a description of what it does, how it works and why you need it.
The rest of this book is all about the recipes, and several really great pictures of what you can create! The recipes are well categorized to make searching simple, and there is a quick description of the benefits of the ingredients in each recipe. One of the greatest features for me (I have been looking for gluten free recipes), are the labels at the top of each recipe. They are simple and designate Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free, Soy Free, No Sugar, Egg Free, and Vegan. I have already tried the grain free Maple Pecan Granola (I will never buy store bought granola again! Delicious!) and can’t wait to try the Cauliflower Flatbread Pizza.
This book is a great addition to a healthy kitchen and home!
