Amish Book Review- An Amish Market

an amish marketWe love all things Amish and that now includes this terrific book of four novellas from publisher Thomas Nelson. An Amish Market is a compilation of stories from some of the best Amish writersAmy Clipston , Kathleen Fuller, Kelly Irvin, and Vannetta Chapman each write about the trials and romance centered around Amish market stores.  Reading and getting to know the characters in each story is like being in one of the quaint stores that are so prevelant in any Amish community.  Love Birds by Amy Clipston, A Bid for Love by Kathleen Fuller,  Sweeter Than Honey by Kelly Irvin, and Love in Store by Vannetta Chapman all offer the reader a true glimpse into the God filled lives of these store operators and communities.

Love Birds, by Amy Clipston, is an inspiring story of lost and regained trust.  The reader meets Ellie Lapp and Lloyd as well developed characters seeking a future together despite difficult times.

A Bid for Love, by Kathleen Fuller, makes us want to churn butter and attend an Amish auction to bid on handmade quilts.  Hannah Lynne and Ezra are enjoyable characters whos hearts outwit even their own minds.

Sweeter than Honey, by Kelly Irvin, is set in an unusual Amish community in Texas. Isabella and Will have to overcome his broken heart to be able to experience their own love.

Love in Store, by Vanetta Chapman, was my favorite of all the stories.  As an older couple, Stella and David must work together to solve the mystery at the Old Amish Mill.  Through that work they discover that God has them together for more than just their jobs.

Each story also includes a nice selection of discussion questions that can be used for reading groups, or just for your own consideration.  I enjoyed answering them so that I could think of each story in different ways.

If you are interested in Amish stories and culture, as well as short, easy to read fiction, An Amish Market will be a great addition to your library.
