Suzanne Woods Fisher has long been one of my favorite authors. She has written many Amish books that I have read (and many reviewed here on this blog), and from time to time has written other compelling Christian fiction. The Moonlight School is bound to be one of her most defining and unforgettable stories.
After facing her own personal tragedy the main character of the story Lucy Wilson sets on her new adventure to assist her cousin in the hills of Kentucky. This is where she is reminded of the devastation of illiteracy and where she finds her purpose to break the barriers of adult illiteracy in these poverty stricken areas. The story, based on true events that shocked the nation, will surely shake the reader with these difficult truths. As Lucy Wilson and the other well developed characters in this story combat the societal issues of the region they also find love and joy in the moonlit schoolhouse evenings.
If you have read other books by Suzanne Woods Fisher you are sure to fall quickly into this latest story. If you have never read a book by Ms. Fisher then I would suggest that The Moonlight School is a wonderful book to start with.
