I recently had the chance to watch “Between Borders,” a film that tells the story of migrants struggling to find their place in a new country. As a Christian, I was struck by the ways in which this film reflects the values of compassion, kindness, and hope that are at the heart of our faith. This film stars Elizabeth Tabish from The Chosen & Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost & The Santa Clause movies and I believe you should consider seeing it in theaters from January 26-28.
Here’s the synopsis-
In a crumbling Soviet Union, the Petrosyan family are outcasts—wherever they go. Armenian heritage marks them for discrimination both at home in Azerbaijan and in Russia. Based on a riveting true story of faith and hope set amidst great oppression … in the shadow of exile, hope became their home.
As a story of struggle and hope, the film follows a group of migrants as they navigate the challenges of living in a new country. Along the way, they face many struggles, from language barriers to cultural differences. But despite these challenges, they remain hopeful and resilient, holding onto their dreams of a better life.
As I watched this film, I was reminded of the many Bible verses that call us to love and care for the stranger and the foreigner. While this can be a touchy subject today, we need to remember that in Leviticus 19:34, we’re told to “treat the stranger who resides with you as the native-born, and love them as yourself.” This film is a powerful reminder of the importance of living out this command in our daily lives.

Overall, I recommend “Between Borders” to anyone looking for a film that will challenge their assumptions and inspire their heart. It’s a powerful story of hope and resilience that reflects the values of compassion, kindness, and love that are at the heart of our faith.
