Makin’ Bacon

At One Ash Plantation Homestead we love our bacon, but then who doesn’t?!  Many of us homesteaders raise our own pigs for the delicious pork they give us, but not everyone is comfortable making their own bacon.  

We weren’t sure we could do it, but after much research we came up with this deliciously salty-sweet cure.  This pictorial will show you how to cure your own bacon to get it ready to smoke, or just to put in the frying pan. Go ahead- try it!

Since we like to smoke our bacon, I thought I would share a couple of other
pictures after we are done smoking it.  We use Hickory chips so that when 
we combine that flavor with the cure we get delicious Hickory Maple Bacon!
