Okay, so I wasn’t going to do any more reviews this Christmas season, but when I saw this beautiful true story I couldn’t say no! It’s truly amazing what can happen when you transform your heart to serve the others who are around you. 5000 Blankets is going to be in theatres for 2 days only- December 12 and 13- and you are going to want to get there to see it!
This is such a heartwarming story of how just a little can change so much. Since I am the founder of MiMi’s Hands (we crochet and donate scarves to the homeless and needy), 5000 Blankets really hit home. We are a small group, but seek to serve others in our community. Inspired by a remarkable true story, 5000 Blankets is filled with hope and highlights the power of family and faith. When her husband has a mental breakdown and goes missing, a woman and her young son set out to find him on the streets, sparking a movement of compassion towards those in need and inspiring a city. The result is the founding of Phillip’s Wish– an organization that was founded by a little boy who saw a need in the world and decided to do something about it. Our prayer at MiMi’s Hands is that we are making the kind of difference in lives that Phillip’s Wish has made.
While the entire movie is filled with sweet moments between mom and son, it was truly heart wrenching when he said- “Mommy,” he said. “Are you warm?” “Yes, baby, I’m warm.” “Is Daddy warm?” he asked. And then the then 7-year-old son asked about everyone else – the people on the street and in the shelters. His mom told him the truth, “No, not everyone is
warm.”
5000 Blankets is a story that everyone should see and hear about. If you can, buy tickets for one of the 2 nights it will be in theatres, and take your kids to see what a difference the smallest act of service can bring!
