Some shows are fun. Some shows are meaningful. A Week Away: The Series manages to be both and that’s what makes it so special. I think you’re going to want to watch this one!
This musical series, now streaming on Angel, is everything I loved about High School Musical and Camp Rock. Catchy songs, top-notch choreography, and plenty of humor, but with real heart and depth behind it. It’s lighthearted enough for kids, funny enough for adults, and thoughtful enough for teens who may be quietly wrestling with big questions about faith, belonging, and healing.
The story follows a defiant foster teen dragged (unwillingly) to Camp Aweegaway, a Christian summer camp. At first, he’s determined to resist what he sees as shallow promises of faith. But slowly, through music, friendship, and unexpected moments of honesty, he begins to see cracks in the walls he’s built. What unfolds is a tender, sometimes funny, sometimes tear-filled journey about trust, grief, and the possibility of hope.
And let me just say- the music will get you. From the very first number, I was hooked. It’s upbeat, infectious, and produced by the same creative team behind your favorite Disney Channel hits. But unlike typical teen musicals, these songs don’t just make you dance, they make you feel. More than once, I found myself tearing up because the lyrics reached right into the questions we all wrestle with…. Can God really heal this pain? Am I truly seen and loved?
That’s the beauty of this series. It doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff, but it also doesn’t preach at you. Instead, it offers a safe space through story and song to consider what hope, faith, and family (even a “found family”) can look like.
If you’ve been craving something uplifting, something that you can watch with your whole family, or even just something fun that leaves you humming for days this is it. Relive the joy of summer camp, laugh, sing, dance, and maybe even find yourself encouraged to love someone a little better.
