If you keep up with my blog, you’ll know that I am a lover of Christian fiction and always enjoy the books published by Revell. Along a Storied Trail by Ann H. Gabhart is another of those wonderful publications.
At the time of this review I am a little over 1/2 way through Along a Storied Trail and am so anxious to see what happens next! Tansy, the packhorse librarian, is just about to venture off with the big-city writer to meet the people and hear the stories of the mountains. After spending the night with Preacher, the two will start off with the not-so-pleasant Aunt Perdie. There are going to be some great stories told and I can’t wait to read them!
The entire concept of the book is so interesting to me. Along a Storied Trail is a story of the Great Depression era, extremely poor, mountain people. To assist with literacy and education, women are employed by the government as pack horse librarians. These librarians travel through the mountains stopping at homes to deliver and retrieve library books. The development of the characters and the description of the scenery is superb and Ms. Gabhart has done an excellent job. As we meet the characters of the mountains they feel almost like old friends. As I am reading Along a Storied Trail I am becoming more and more intriqued with this part of our country and the people who live there. This is a piece of our history that is secluded and unknown to many. Although this is a fiction story I feel like it is steeped in accuracy of the area and the people of the Kentucky hills.
