We have been homesteading for a lot of years- not to age ourselves, but really it’s been decades! Over that time we have had a lot of trial and error. With everything from what waterer to buy for chicks, to which feeder works best for goats. From what is the best whisk in the kitchen, to what is the appropriate size collar for our dogs.
Especially when we first started, we really weren’t sure about a lot of the supplies we needed. We spent a lot of time (and money!) trying to set up our homestead with items that were right for us. That meant finding things that worked well, were decently priced (we always look for a sale or bargain without sacrificing quality), and hopefully things that were going to last.
When setting up a homestead there is so much to think about! I mean, you are working in so many different areas- barn, pastures, sheds, coops, kitchens, canning areas, gardens…….and do you want something that’s electric, gas powered, or maybe even non-electric……should you find something that’s expensive and will last (hopefully) longer, or do you just want to grab something for a one time use…….should you buy extra and stock up……phew…..and what about yourself….how do you take care of your dry, hard working skin and dirty clothes….so many things to think about…. how do you even figure it all out?
Well, as a part of the way we are sharing how we homestead, we have decided to set up our own homesteading supply storefront. We are taking time to add items that we have either used, have had recommended, or believe would be a useful addition to your homestead. Bottom line, we just want to give you some advice based on what we have learned.
We know that what we have in our storefront is not exactly what everyone would recommend- there are lots of opinions out there- but these are the things that we think you need to run your homestead smoothly, and with less stress! We hope that this helps you out- whether new at homesteading or an old pro. And we are happy to share a few of Our Favorite Things!
