So, I have to admit, it took me a while to decide to review this book after it was offered to me by the publisher. The entire concept was intriguing to me- tying together home renovation, restoration and revival. After all, a large portion of my life includes taking care of our Victorian home, finding and restoring treasures, and repurposing things for a new use. So all of those “home improvement” things are what I do. But to tie it into Gods work within us? Hmmmm……I had to think about it a while. But I am SO glad I said yes to reviewing Revived & Renovated by Victoria Duerstock and Paige Rien! And a big thanks to End Game Press for allowing me to be a part of the influencer group for this book.
The conversations between Victoria and Paige about their work on the home, themselves, and the deep connection between these are inspiring and delightful to read. Each of the words they discuss is defined at the beginning of the chapter. From Revived to Reclaimed to Repurposed it only takes a couple of chapters to realize how the connection with Gods work in us connects to these definitions. As the two discuss current projects they interject bible verses and speak in the easy way that friends share the lessons of the bible and Gods word. One of my favorites is when after talking about Renovated they simply include the verse I am making all things new. Revelation 21:5. This simplicity resonates throughout the book and for me opened my eyes to the work God is doing all around me. With each and every thing I touch He is there, and Revived & Renovated helps to remind me of that.
If you love renovation, repurposing, or restoring this book with most definitely hit home for you. But if you don’t enjoy those things the book still has a place in helping you see the easy, biblically based conversations that can be had between friends.
