Book Review- An Amish Christmas Gift- Three Novellas

Every year one of my favorite traditions is reading Christmas books.  I always start before Thanksgiving, and usually keep reading Christmas books until mid January. My favorites, as you may have guessed, are Amish fiction Christmas books. I can usually get through 2 or 3 books during the season and it’s always fun to decide what I will read. A few years ago I read this one, and it’s on the list for a re-read!  This collection of three novellas, An Amish Christmas Gift, by Amy Clipston , Ruth Reid, and Kelly Irvin bring to life the hope, faith, family and community that makes the Amish culture so unique.  

In the first novella, Naomi’s Gift by Amy Clipston, Naomi and Caleb find out that the plans they had for their lives are just a little different than what God has planned for them.  As we journey with them through the difficulty of learning to listen to God’s plan, we fall in love with these well developed characters.  

The second novella, An Unexpected Joy by Ruth Reid, introduces us to talkative and headstrong Abigail.  “Gabby Abby” has struggled to find her place with the young men in her area and is convinced she will remain a “maedel”.  After pushing her way into a caretakers job, she finds that Micah is more than just the grandson to her elderly client.

In the third and final novella, A Christmas Visitor by Kelly Irvin, the combination of Englisch and Amish comes to a head from Frannie and Rocky. As Rocky makes his case, the surprises and commitment to faith abound.

While I have enjoyed each of the stories, I have to say my favorite is Naomi’s Gift.  I am a fan of Amy Clipston, and she was really the reason I chose to review this book.  If you are looking for short, easy to read, Amish stories, any of these will interest you.  And it doesn’t have to be at Christmas time!
