I was so excited when I saw this book was available! Suzanne Woods Fisher has long been one of my favorite Amish authors. Stitches in Time is the second book in The Deacon’s Family series. And just like the first book, Mending Fences, it does not disappoint!
Reading about the ongoing story of Izzy and Luke was so much fun. Their lives are developing and they are growing up. The opportunities they are presented with are leading them into things they never could have imagined. From the yarn shop, to the fixit shop they are being led and challenged, and are living life with faith and discernment. It was good to find out that Stitches in Time contained the continuation of the marriage of Luke and Izzy. They are such wonderfully developed characters that I wanted to know more about!
There is also a wonderful, faith filled story of Mollie and Sam, and the foster children that Mollie readily accepts into her life. This is definitely an important part of the book, and Suzanne Woods Fisher has done an excellent job developing these characters as well. As Mollie quickly learns, having a home filled with girls leads to chaos for her household. But despite his tendency to pull away, Sam finds himself drawn closer and closer to Mollie. With many twists and turns, they work through numerous issues, all led by their faith in God.
It isn’t necessary to have read Mending Fences prior to reading Stitches in Time (although any fan of Amish Fiction or Suzanne Woods Fisher would sure want to!). There is a great section at the beginning of the book that outlines each character and how they relate to each other.
If you enjoy reading Amish Fiction, or just good wholesome fiction in general, I definitely would recommend this book. Stitches in Time by Suzanne Woods Fisher will be on my list of top books and will be touted as a favorite. I expect this is one I will read over again.
