I have always found things about the Louisiana bayou a bit mysterious, somewhat mystifying. When I was offered the opportunity from the publisher to read and review Under the Bayou Moon I almost turned it down. But now that I am in the middle of reading this delightful, multifaceted Christian book from author Valerie Fraser Luesse I am so glad I didn’t!
I was instantly drawn into this story. Miss Ellie is searching for her lifes calling, and the intrique and invitation from the bayou leads her into a very different and new way of life very quickly. From the people she encounters, to the travel by boat to get anywhere along the bayou, to the legends of the “esprit blanc” (white alligator) that roams among them, Ellie’s new job and community are nothing like what she has known before. As she works to educate the children despite adversity, teacher Ellie also learns a lot herself about people and their underlying motives.
Under the Bayou Moon is one of those books that I can’t wait to get back to each day. If you like the somewhat mystical and unknown southern bayou then I think you would like reading this cultural and romantic novel.
