Generally my book reviews are Amish Fiction, but there was something about When the Meadow Blooms by Ann H. Gabhart that peaked my interest. And I was not wrong! From page one I have been hooked to this book. I can’t wait for the time in the day that I can read it, and have spent quite a few very late nights being unable to put it down!
From a historical fiction standpoint When the Meadow Blooms focuses on about 1918 onward. While the medical history of this book is not the main focus, the influence of the spanish flu, sanitariums, past scars and orphanages play a huge part in the character development of this story. I’ve always been interested in medical history, so these subjects are part of the reason I find When the Meadow Blooms to be so interesting.
But an even more important reason for my enjoyment of this story is that faith and hope play main roles in the story line of When the Meadow Blooms. Mother Rose, and daughters Calla and Sienna all work through challenges and blessings in their lives because they believe in the power of prayer and God. This faith is incorporated in every aspect of their lives. Moving in with Uncle Dirk certainly challenged that faith! Can they become the influence that Dirk needs to bring joy back into his life? Will they help him regain the faith that he is so desperately missing? Page after page leads the reader to the answer, and Ms. Gabhart does not disappoint in this Christian fiction book.
