Fresh peaches are SO delicious! One Ash Homestead is located in the heart of SC peach country so we get to enjoy a summer full of juicy, ripe and yummy peaches. We love to just take a big bite and have that sweet juice run down our chins, but when it comes to using those peaches for something else I had a dilemma. How do you easily peel a peach? I did quite a bit of research and got many different ideas. I tried most of them (some were a little crazy sounding so I left those in google!). After that trial and error, I am excited to share my best method with you.
The first time I tried this I thought it was a huge mess and vowed to never try it again. Too much heat, too much water, what a mess! But, with a little persistence this became one of the easiest methods I use when processing summer fruits and vegetables.
Here is my trick to peeling peaches- I hope it works for you. Leave a comment and let me know if you like this, or if you have another method!
Ever wonder how to easily peel a peach? Here’s the easy trick~
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Make sure the water is at a full rolling boil before you put the peaches in.
Drop several peaches in the boiling water. I usually do about 6 at a time. The peaches should be free to move around so don’t overload the pot. Leave the peaches in the water for 1 minute.
When one minute is up, immediately transfer the peaches to a bowl of ice water. This stops the process and prevents them from actually cooking. I use a big stainless steel stockpot for this- it wasn’t as messy that way!
In about 30 seconds remove the peaches onto a cookie sheet lined with paper towels.
You will be able to rub the peaches lightly and the skin will roll right off!
Leave the skin on the paper towel and gather it up to throw away or take to your chickens- they love it!
