For a good portion of my adult life I have heard news headlines and stories about the life of children in Asia. I never really knew how much was true and how much was “made-for-drama” news. But as I have perused the book No Longer A Slumdog by K.P Yohannan I have learned a lot about the dire situations in those areas. As a part of the ministry Gospel of Asia, there is great work being done to bring hope and Jesus to the children of Southern Asia. The stories here of the plight of the children in the slums, forced servitude, and decrepite villages will tear at your heart. The hope and joy they are finding from the ministry of Mr. Yohannan and others will also give you hope and joy as you read through these scenes.
Here is the publishers book description-
Let God stir your heart for some who are truly in need—thousands of children living in slum conditions in Asia. In this book, real children share their real stories of need and how our loving God intervened to redeem them with His love.
You will be astonished as you read how God is powerfully moving in hearts right now. Read about an abandoned girl who found hope at the end of the railroad tracks, a young boy who escaped after years of forced servitude, and many others whose lives have been redeemed. You’ll be captivated by this powerful move of God as K.P. Yohannan leads you on a journey through the slums and villages of South Asia into the hearts and lives of these precious children. This book is written by a ministry leader who leads Gospel For Asia. It is an amazing ministry and you can share about them in your blog too. More info here: https://www.gfa.org/
My review of this book is short, because it really is a must-read for everyone, with little more to be said. Anyone who wants to seek knowledge outside of their own life and comfort zone will find this book educational as well as inspirational. No Longer A Slumdog is an easy read and well written. I would recommend it for church groups or libraries, as well as being a good education tool for older homeschooled children. We should all read about the truths of South Asia so that we can be humbled and have a greater appreciation for all that we have here in the United States.
